i made ten thousand cartoons,- each one a little bit different from the one preceding it.
Winsor McCay.  I just watched a bunch of his old animations today and they are pretty incredible for having been done entirely by hand (and just his hand) in the early 20th century.  It is clear that he had an interest in circus themed animation.  For example in Little Nemo in Slumberland he draws the characters as if they were looking at the changing mirrors in fun houses.  While the animations were relatively simple, they were very smooth and showed an impressive amount of emotion, especially in the case of Gertie the dinosaur.  He could make her look happy, shy, scared, and tons of other emotions.  There were also some clips of him drawing his characters and I liked those parts the best.  He drew very quickly and never made mistakes.  He could draw a character in a single line without taking his pen off the paper.  Another bit I found interesting was that the first few animations he made were the result of bets he had made with his friends that he could not make something come to life.
